How many reasons are there to NOT use Microsoft Windows?  I lost count back in 1987 when, during a momentary lapse of sanity, I decided to purchase Windows 3.1.  If memory serves me, I paid fifty hard-earned (military salary) dollars for that piece of junk GUI environment.  It took more time to install it than it was installed on my hard drive.  Since that moment, I have been a vocal opponent of all things Microsoft.  I just received e-mail from a good friend of mine relating his most recent experience with the tripe from Redmond (for which I've taken the editorial liberty to clean-up to keep my blog family-friendly):

Trying to recover the Dell today;
c:\windows\system32\config\system (or something like that):

File corrupt or missing.

I think it's not corrupt, there is just some bit written (or not) saying that it's corrupt. Two - three hours friggin' tinkerin' with it.  Not enough disk space to do a re-install.  Trying to save data.  Deleting files one at a time in recovery mode -- NO file-complete tab, NO wildcards accepted, NO copy-paste, NO deltree -- Fat fingers.

chkdsk quits at 25%.  Says unrecoverable errors.

Have I ever told you that I hate Windows?

My friend has been trying to rid himself of the infestation known as Windows for some time.  I think he thought he'd be able to do it after replacing the failed power supply in order to recover some old data stored on the computer in question.  He recently bought a Mac, which he should have done years ago!
